Manipal College of Medical Sciences (MCOMS), Pokhara was established in 1994 as a collaboration between the Manipal Group and the Government of Nepal and the 750-bed Manipal Teaching Hospital, Pokhara was inaugurated in 1998.

The college and hospital have been set up with the most modern facilities for modern education and health delivery. The college is affiliated to the Kathmandu University.

It offers a five and a half years MBBS Degree (four and a half years + one year internship) programme. The language of instruction is English.

MCOMS started postgraduate programmes and the School of Nursing & Allied Health programmes in the year 2000.

The venture has helped in the overall development of Nepal besides providing direct employment to a number of local people..

The annual enrolment for the MBBS degree is 145 students (data from 2013). The majority of the students are of Nepalese and Indian origin. Students from other nations such as: Sri Lanka, United States of America (NRN), Canada (NRN), etc. are also enrolled. Many elective students visit from American and European Universities and have the opportunity for hands on training.

The basic science training takes place at Deep Campus. After passing all the subjects of basic sciences, a student is promoted to the clinical aspect of the course.

The next five semesters are devoted to the study of clinical sciences, and are held at Manipal Teaching Hospital, Pokhara. The students are intensively trained and evaluated. The third year university examinations are held at the end of the 7th semester, and include the following subjects:

  • Community Medicine-Part II
  • Forensic Medicine
  • Ophthalmology
  • Otorhinolaryngology

After the successful completion of all 4 subjects of the third year, a student is allowed to take the final year examinations which consist of:

  • Medicine and allied subjects (Part I & II)
  • Surgery and allied subjects (Part I & II)
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Pediatrics

2016 Batch MBBS Admission Information - International Students (i.e. Non-Nepalese)

Annual Intake: The College admits 150 students per year in the MBBS program each year.


Admissions for the 30th batch of students for the MBBS program at MCOMS are open. Please send in your completed application form along with copies of Class XIIth/A Level and Xth/O Level mark-sheets, copy of passport / citizenship certificate and application fee demand draft of Indian Rs One Thousand (Indian national applicants) / US$ One Hundred (other international candidates). All applications are required to be filled on the MCOMS website and hard copies sent via courier (DHL/FedEx/DTDC/First Flight/TNT/UPS etc). Please refer to Mode of Payment for payment modes of application fee.

Processing of Application:

The filled application forms are processed for adequacy, minimum eligibility requirements and based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination, a merit list is prepared.

Provisional Admission:

A letter of provisional admission could be issued based on merit. This letter will state various clauses of admission and date of payment of the first installment of tuition fee.

Confirmed Admission:

Confirmation of the provisional admission will be subject to the Kathmandu University norms and qualifying an entrance exam conducted by the Kathmandu University / Medical Education Board, Govt of Nepal for which we advise the students to prepare themselves.
